This year marks the 98th edition of the Tri-County Fair in Petersburg, and the fair has never lost touch with its unique, local history. Every year since the beginning, the Tri-County Fair has been an opportunity for locals to show off all of the hard work they have done on the farm over the last year. The event features agricultural exhibits, livestock competitions, horticulture, art exhibits, and so much more to explore as you enjoy everything that the fair has to offer. The fun kicks off on the first day of the fair, with a series of equestrian events.
The Tri-County Fair is such a beloved event because it blends educational exhibits with family fun. And what could be more fun than a carnival on a warm summer evening? The rides at the Tri-County Fair open at 6:00 pm on most days, and make for a perfect way to spend the evening after a day of exploring all that the fair has to offer. There will also be two demolition derbies at this year's fair, with one for compact cars and one for larger vehicles. Maple syrup is a completely natural product derived from maple trees. Tree sap flows in the springtime when the temperature rises. Producers use spigot-style devices to tap the trees and drain the natural sap into buckets. They use the sap to create syrup and other products.
Maple syrup is the perfect pancake topper. On March 17th you can taste it first hand at three Maple Days Pancake Breakfasts. Check the West Virginia Department of Agriculture site for Pancake Breakfast locations.
During the March 17th celebration, retailers across the state will feature maple any way you like it. They'll sell maple syrup, of course, plus a variety of products. Local restaurants, shops and even the Barn With Inn located in Wellsburg will feature Maple Days specials.
