I live in the College Park neighborhood of Staunton, Virginia (McSwain Elementary and Staunton High School districts), and my family and I love it here! We have great neighbors, and there is a genuine sense of warmth and community here. We're always looking out for each other, and it's always easy to say hello or offer neighborly help to one another. Life is a little bit slower, and southern hospitality is everywhere. Furthermore, my son really enjoys McSwain Elementary, and we have nothing but good things to say about the awesome teachers there. I would also like to highlight the plentiful programs available to us through Staunton Parks and Rec and the local YMCA.
Living in Staunton, there are a lot of great restaurants to enjoy, with one of my personal favorites being Kline's Ice Cream and BBQ. My son gets some delicious ice cream while my wife and I chow down on some pulled pork BBQ! I'll never get tired of their Carolina-style BBQ.
Another few local spots we greatly enjoy including Gypsy Hill Park, where the ducks are always waiting to be fed and downtown Staunton where you can find some great gelato at Split Banana as well as cool antique shops and historic buildings to take in. If I were to use only three words to describe why I love living in my Staunton community, it would be "connected," charming," and "historic."
Even though I live in Staunton, I work with clients all over the Shenandoah Valley. The best part of my real estate career would be meeting people from all walks of life and helping them by representing them, working with them closely, as well as being able to bring their dreams to reality. With this career, I've been able to explore many parts of the Valley and make new friends and acquaintances, which has also been very rewarding.
I have overcome many challenges in my life, and I am very thankful to be where I am today with my family and career. I'm excited to continue to serve my community with the Old Dominion Realty team!

So you're ready to take that giant step and buy a house. Maybe you drove down the street and saw a yard sign in front of your dream home. You wrote down the real estate agent's name and phone number and are ready to give them a call. Wait Stop!
Before you make that call, there are a couple of things you need to know. The number you are dialing belongs to the REALTOR® (or Listing Agent) who works for the person selling the house—not you the prospective home buyer.
People interested in buying a house should have their own real estate agent (or Buyer's Agent) whose job it is to represent their best interests.
There are a world of differences between the services of a Listing Agent and Buyer's Agent. Here's what you can expect from each type of REALTOR®.
A home owner will engage the services of a Listing Agent when they decide to sell a house. A written agreement or listing contract will be signed outlining their working relationship, how the REALTOR® will market the home, the real estate commission and terms of the home's listing. The Listing Agent has a legal obligation to get the highest selling price and best sales terms available for the seller.
There are a number of other services a Listing Agent may perform before it is time to think about closing day.
Buying a house is a big decision. When you do make the decision, engage a Buyer's Agent to represent your best interests.
A Buyer's Agent will negotiate the best purchase price and terms for you. In exchange, you will be asked to sign an agency agreement outlining your working relationship, real estate services, and compensation.
Buyer's Agents also:
Most buyers assume they pay a commission to their Buyer's Agent. The truth is: only the seller pays the commission from the proceeds of the sale. The same commission is usually paid whether or not a Buyer's Agent is involved. It is to your benefit to have a Buyer's Agent on your side.
Working with a Buyer's Agent that knows the local real estate market can save you time, money and undo stress during your entire home buying process.

The conference was open exclusively to brokers, managers and relocation professionals affiliated with LeadingRE, a global community of real estate companies awarded membership based on rigorous standards for service and performance. A wide range of topics were explored relating to the real estate market and addressed ways to best meet the needs of today's home buyers and sellers. Old Dominion Realty is a proud member of Leading Real Estate Companies of the World®. Accepting only elite companies in an area, LeadingRE turns away 80 percent of companies that apply to join their organization.
Mike Pugh, Old Dominion Realty's Broker comment, "We have been in the business of helping people buy and sell homes since 1962. Our team of REALTORS® offers newcomers to our community an introduction to our varied, culturally diverse area; however, we realize there is a need as a local real estate company to find companies outside of their local community to help our customers. That is why we have aligned ourselves with Leading Real Estate Companies of the World®."
Within this network, Old Dominion Realty can connect its clients with an expert REALTOR® anywhere in the world. LeadingRE and its network affiliates sell more real estate that any of your other top brands.
"It was a real honor to bring together the brightest minds in the real estate industry to share ideas, explore current and future trends, and discuss strategies for serving the needs of today's home buyers and sellers," said LeadingRE President/CEO Pam O'Connor.
